Very sturdy, stays in place when opening the egg.Works much better than the vent that came with my Kamado Joe, very happy with this purchase.Replaced our old chimney cap with this new one with a rain cap. Really like this one versus the old original one we had. Fit like a glove so no problems because of age. Ordered through Amazon and received within 2 days versus another order for additional parts not available through Amazon through Amado joe.com direct and still waiting after 2 weeks for order to be full filled.5 stars for AmazonLooks great. Very heavy duty. My Joe is under a covered area but the little rain cap is neat. Has all the functionality of the original.Please remember to tap ever so gently on your old cap to remove it. The new cap is very functional with two ways for your Green Egg to operate. Just flip the rain cap up when it's not raining of course.It makes opening air vent up easy. They metal one that came with the egg was sticking. Even after pulling it apart and cleaning it. Once egg fired up and stack was warm you had to have serious heat resistant gloves to adjust opening. This vent is so easy.First off, I agree that the cap in theory is great. Open the petals to your setting, or just give it a easy pull to the left and it’s all the way open is great. Then the rain shield was the selling point for me, and I need a new regulator anyway. Not to mention why keep switching lids when you don’t have to?Very heavy, well built construction for sure, but I am hesitant on it being cast iron. I am no cast iron guru, but after one cleaning the black quickly came off to show a gray/silver colour. Not sure if that matters but there you go.I did bake and season parts of the cap when it first arrived so I could have an easier time cleaning when the time came. I am not sure if this was a mistake or not, but after the first few (3-4) smoking sessions the cap became very, very difficult to open. Both the petal vents, or fully opened. The grease, and smoke almost sealed the cap shut, so if you are looking for simple barbecue sessions I am sure it will be fine…but if you are planning on a lot of brisket, pork, bacon etc…be wary.I am a chain mail cleaning type, so take that as it is, and I did a good cleaning today and was surprised at how easy it was to get all the gunk off compared to a cask iron grate, but if this keeps getting sealed after three or four sessions it’s going to be frustrating quickly.In hindsight, a new regulator by green egg and the addition of just the rain guard would have been smarter for me.Works well to keep rain out. However, the portion which inserts into the Big Green Egg XL is very short. The supplied screw maxed out after only a few threads, however weight of the cap and portion inserted in smoker cap made it unstable to use. Had to make a run to Lowes and buy longer screw which is only metric to fit but too long so I had to add 6 washers. Works after rigging it up. Supplied screw needs to be longer or extend portion which inserts into green egg smoker cap.Excellent produit
