Cute concept, could use improvement. Took half hour of play before he started to hatch, which my daughter enjoyed. She was super excited when he started to hatch, but he pecked at the egg for an hour and still wasn't anywhere close to coming out of egg. You can't just leave it to peck at the egg and check on it's progress periodically, because it goes to sleep every minute or two and you have to constantly wake it up. After an hour of watching it peck a small hole she got bored, and we just cut the egg open with scissors. She has enjoyed teaching it to talk, but it has about 20 functions according to what color it's eyes are, and she gets frustrated having to constantly refer to the instructions to see what the colors mean. Some of the features even I can't get to work, it's a bit complicated. She is 7, so maybe an older child will catch on faster. She likes the toy today, but I don't think it will have long term appeal. Edited to add, my niece received one and it pecked it's way out of the she'll just fine, and she was able to teach it to walk, which is something we couldn't get ours to do. So maybe ours was just defective. My daughter was able to figure out all the different colors after a couple days. It was her favorite toy for close to a week, but she hasn't touched it sinceThe Draggle is an “original” Hatchimal. Some come defected. Our’s unfortunately did. However! When I called SpinMaster they were very informative and switched our Draggle out and within 2-3 business days we received a “newer version” of the Draggle. They’re super neat to watch hatch. They sing HAPPY BIRTHDAY as soon as they hatch completely and you remove it from the bottom half of the egg. The Draggle DOES NOT COME WITH A “NEST” such as the “Glitter Garden” version does. But they’re really cool toys and make the Furby’s look pathetic! I definitely recommend them for any child! (Or even an adult!) My son wanted the blue one, but you never know exactly what color you’ll get until it hatches (he got the blue one both times!) If the Draggle’s sound starts to go out or you have to change the batteries rather quickly, contact SpinMaster immediately! My son has wanted one since Christmas but “Santa’s workshop was running out of time to make them.” My son is super stoked and loooves his “Draggle.”I got this for my daughter earlier this month and she loves it!! It was pretty cool how the more attention you gave it, the more it would respond in the egg and hatch faster. It took about 20 minutes to hatch and then it sings a little Happy Birthday song for itself! My daughter loves it and loves going through the different stages with it. It has like an infant, toddler, and kid stage or something like that. The difference with the stages seems to be the "talking" of the Hatchimal. You understand it a little better when it's at the kid stage. It's silly and my daughter loves it! Also, after she played with it for a while, I noticed it sang Happy Birthday again and it seemed to start over again in the baby stage. Which I thought was good bc I wouldn't have wanted it to be at the last stage forever. As far as the hatching goes, it's really cool and fun to watch it, but once it's hatch, the egg is done. You throw the egg away.Obviously the best and most unique part of this is the hatching part. Ours came completely cracked around the base. I was able to lift the top off, revealing which "Draggle" it was. Once it started to hatch I had to hold the top on tight so it wouldn't fall off and would actually break the shell. Not sure if this is a packaging error as it is obviously very fragile, or the product was defective. Once hatched , you refer to the chart of colors to see what it means and what action to take. My daughter loved this part, but we did not remove the plastic so we could package it back up to return and receive a replacement that is hopefully not completely cracked around the middle. That definitely took the fun out of the hatching aspect. I believe these are over priced for what they do, but you pay for the demand. Once hatched, it's a lot like a Furby. Still fun but unremarkable. My daughter was so excited to get this as a birthday gift, however we were a bit disappointed. For an item that only hatches once and implies that you have to work a bit at getting it to hatch ours hatched in the first 15 mins it was opened. I'm not sure if thats a standard to every egg or what but for the money you spend and the fact it only hatches once it was quite disappointing, it caught my daughter off guard when it hatched so quick. Once it hatches while yes it does things the initial excitement what whats inside the egg is obviously over and its somewhat similiar to a furby in concept (although cuter in my opinion). So while the toy itself is a cute concept, I def feel its way overpriced for what we actually got. This toy is very cute and very interactive, it really has its own little personality! However if your child is not old enough to read the LONG list of different things to do when the creature needs something then be prepared for a frustrating, very repetitive couple of hours. Eventually your child will remember what to do on thier own and really enjoy this toy. All in all I'm happy with this purchase :)This was a hit!!! It took some time hatching and my 6 yo helped it along slightly and has not put it down since Xmas! It is interactive and learns as they play together. He loves asking it yes or no questions...playing the clapping game and dancing. I paid more than I'd like to admit but the joy it has brought was well worth itThis thing is awesome. After reading some of the reviews, I was skeptical. I think all those other people didn't interact enough and didn't have enough patience. My daughter (with my help) had this hatched in an hour and has been helping it "grow" each day. It has already gone through a couple stages and she is in love with it.When it it hatching, you have to keep rubbng the bottom. I just did it on my leg and I think that is what helped.Daughter loves it. The toy is really cute and interactive. The eyes' lights are really bright. I recommend it for kids over 5 years old. Keep in mind that the hatching stage can happen just once. There's no way to put it back in the shell. The other stages can be repeated though.Like many toys this one just sits around. It was fun while hatching out of the egg and after that they didn’t care for itMy 5 yr old granddaughter was ecstatic when she opened her gift. We were all gathered around we and even before we could read the instructions she was in full control about 30 minutes later we were all holding our breath as the shell started to break apart. We were all fascinated. It is still her baby! U really do need to pay attention to the instructionsOverrated so would not recommend. Overpriced toy that kids played with until it hatched then has stayed in the toy bin ever since. Save your money and do not purchaseMy daughter wanted this for Christmas so bad . Totally cool to watch it hatch and there it sits . Not worth the hype or the extravagant price . Now I pd 84.95 and did receive it quickly .
