I tested this with large, extra large and jumbo eggs and they held all of them well in and out of the shell. The space for the egg is deep enough while the ring is the perfect size to hold the egg firmly in place and elevate it slightly in the hole to accommodate the different sizes and shapes (long and skinnier, short and fatter) of the eggs I tried.I needed a dozen egg cups for a family breakfast but didn't want to spend a lot of money. Though your basic white, this set was priced right, arrived well-packaged, and served our purpose well. They're fun to have on hand.Was introduced to the egg holder when I was in Germany.
